Sunrise opts for full switch to electric vehicles

30.07.2024 / 09:00 CET/CEST

  • Sunrise has decided to switch its entire fleet of vehicles to electric power to achieve a significant reduction in operational emissions.
  • All of the  255 cars should be fully electric by the end of 2024. For the company’s approx. 65 vans, the switch to electric models is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2028.
  • The Swiss family-owned company AMAG will be supplying the vehicles.

«Individual measures are rarely enough. That’s why our decision to switch to e-mobility not only means replacing our entire vehicle fleet with electric vehicles, but also optimising the environment. This includes expanding the availability of charging options at the workplace, subsidising home-charging stations for company vehicles and raising employee awareness about how to save energy while on the move,» says André Krause, CEO of Sunrise. «We’ve already been working with AMAG for several months to ensure we can stick to our ambitious end-of-2024 deadline for converting the vehicle fleet. As a progressive and responsible company, we want to make our contribution to the further development of e-mobility in Switzerland.»

Helmut Ruhl, CEO of AMAG Group AG, says this about the collaboration: «We’re delighted that Sunrise has chosen our solutions and that we can support them with our products and services as they implement their sustainability goals

Sunrise IMPACTS

Sunrise sees sustainability as an integral part of its corporate strategy and operational business activities. Reducing greenhouse-gas emission is an important component of the Sunrise IMPACTS strategy, which aims to reduce operational emissions (scope 1 and 2) by 51% and emissions from the upstream and downstream value chain (scope 3) by 30% by 2032.

The Sunrise vehicle fleet plays an important role when it comes to operating emissions. Sunrise started to replace its vehicle fleet gradually in 2023. Overall, this has already reduced operating emissions by 14%. The planned replacement of the company’s 320 passenger cars and vans with electric vehicles will not only reduce operational emissions, but also help raise awareness among employees.

The company’s increased focus on the environment is underscored by the recently granted ISO 14001 certification for its environmental-management system and has also led to improvements in external climate-performance assessments conducted by the Carbon Disclosure Project.

Sunrise was also recently awarded a platinum medal by EcoVadis, a global leader in corporate sustainability assessments. With 81 points, Sunrise now ranks among the top 1% of globally rated companies.

On 19 June 2024, Sunrise published its first comprehensive sustainability report. It was drawn up in line with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards and underscores the company’s dedication to greater transparency and commitment in sustainability management.
