The city is refocusing and strengthening its multimedia offering in Lausanne New partnership with Sunrise to continue the historic SiL cable network that serves neighbouring municipalities

Lausanne Industrial Services (SiL) has partnered with Sunrise to take over the cable network in ten municipalities surrounding Lausanne in the city’s bid to concentrate on its multimedia offering within Lausanne. In the coming months, Sunrise will be providing the latest telecommunications services, including broadband and TV, to businesses and individuals, and modernising the cable network to make it future-proof.

The municipality has decided to refocus and strengthen the SiL multimedia activities in the city of Lausanne. This strategic decision will enable the city to strengthen its resources and offer Lausanne residents a more diverse range of services through its bliblablo products, as well as continuing to develop its FTTH fibre-optic network. So as to not disadvantage customers outside of Lausanne, the cable network is being transferred to Sunrise in a partnership approach that will ensure continuity and quality of service.

«This development will allow the City of Lausanne to offer SiL multimedia services under the bliblablo brand solely via fibre optics (through its company LFO SA) and dismantle the historic cable-network system in the city of Lausanne. With fibre optics now available throughout almost all of Lausanne, customers will benefit from a diverse, high-quality local offering,» explains Xavier Company, City Councillor in charge of SiL.

«By taking over the SiL cable network covering Lausanne’s surrounding areas and offering our services directly to the more than 17,000 connected homes, we can ensure continuity of supply to customers and high-quality innovative services. In addition, we’ll be modernising the cable network and making it future-proof for both private and business customers,» confirms André Krause, CEO of Sunrise.

In a thorough evaluation process, as Switzerland’s largest cable operator, Sunrise was able to convince the city to place its trust in its technical and operational expertise, not to mention its attractive offerings for businesses and individuals.

With the takeover of the SiL cable network, Sunrise is acquiring a significant digital infrastructure that provides many businesses and households in the Lake Geneva region with landline connectivity, Internet and TV. The municipalities affected by the change include Prilly, Le-Mont-sur-Lausanne, Epalinges, Jouxtens-Mézery, Bottens, Morrens, Bretigny-sur-Morrens, Cugy, Froideville and Savigny.

In total, more than 17,000 households (and businesses) are connected to the cable network that is being transferred to Sunrise. The transfer will take place in stages from May 2024 until roughly the end of the year. Sunrise will contact customers as the changes take place, with attractive offers to continue the service previously provided by SiL. SiL and Sunrise are working closely together to ensure the efficient, uninterrupted transition of service.

As for SiL, it will continue to run its technical and commercial call centre in Lausanne and will be expanding its services thanks to partners in French-speaking Switzerland as part of net+. There will be new low-cost products aimed at pensioners to augment the bliblablo offer, as well as mobile offers to meet the needs of all Lausanne residents. Finally, to mark these developments, which have been presented to the Municipal Council as part of a preliminary report, the Citycable brand will be permanently changed to SiL and bliblablo.

The City of Lausanne and Sunrise are delighted at this collaboration, which reinforces each partner’s development strategy while ensuring high-quality services for the customers involved.
